MARQUETTE -- Marquette City Manager Bill Vajda said the city's state revenue sharing is around $1.7 million per annum which equates to roughly three percent of the city's overall budget.

Even though last year the city planned for the possibility of receiving less revenue sharing, it will still have an impact on the city of Marquette.

"The potential direct impacts on the city of Marquette are going to come primarily through revenue sharing from the state or through potential resources we might go after for grant pursuits or grant opportunities," said Vajda.

In a place like Munising, where tourists brought in $25 million visiting Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore last year, a cut in funding would have a significant impact on the park.

"We anticipate having to close the Munising Falls Visitor Center. We'll have fewer maintenance employees working in the park this summer, and we will lose our Backcountry Patrol Ranger this summer which is a really critical position for us," said Pictured Rocks Superintendent Jim Northup.

When it comes to the Alger-Marquette Community Action Board, which provides early childhood services and outreach programs, Executive Director Earl Hawn says it is a waiting game.

"I believe the number is five percent for sequestration, but we are halfway through our fiscal year right now. Our fiscal year is October 1 through September 30 for the federal government. We don't know if we have to double that number up to 10 percent in order to meet a full year's worth of spending reductions or if it'll be the five percent, so we're waiting for direction," said Hawn.
