CARNEY-NADEAU -- The Menominee County Sheriff's Department took a student at Carney-Nadeau Public School into custody on Wednesday for possessing a butcher knife.

According to officials, the student had brought the knife to school and told some students that he was going to kill another student. Staff members had located the seventh grade student and secured him in an office.

The eight-inch long knife was located by staff members and locked in another office, thus putting the students out of danger.

Menominee County Sheriff Kenny Marks credited the students who reported the incident and the staff members that located and secured both the student and the knife.

The Menominee County Prosecutor's Office has received the case for review.
