MARQUETTE -- One of the most honorable awards given to those in public safety is for saving someone's life.
Wednesday morning, officers and citizens were honored for just that at the Marquette City Commission Chambers.
Officers and citizens were honored with a lifesaving award for their quick response after seeing a car submerged in a creek off Marquette County Road 480.
On December 16, Klaye Olson, Scott Olson, Aaron Beckman and Chris Graham came across a roll-over accident and stopped to help.
It was a group effort with officers from the Marquette City Police, Marquette County Sheriff's Department, and Chocolay Township Police. Jim Finkbeiner, Torin Tredeau, Tony Carrick, and John LeGalley were honored for removing the woman stuck in the submerged car. They got in the water and removed the 36-year-old woman through the passenger's side.
"It's a good feeling. It's good to know that there's people out there, citizens and professionals, that will respond in the best possible way at anytime, day or night," said City of Marquette Chief of Police Mike Angeli.
The four men who saw the car and stopped will be nominated for the Michigan Sheriff's Association lifesaving awards.
