Fatal snowmobile crash in Houghton County

FRANKLIN TWP. -- A 41-year-old Houghton man died Friday night in a snowmobile crash in Franklin Township in Houghton County. The accident happened at approximately 9:50 p.m. on private property.

The man was killed when he drove his snowmobile under a steel cable that was located on the property. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Portage View Hospital in Hancock by Mercy Ambulance.

The victim's name is being withheld pending notification of family. Alcohol was involved in the crash.

The accident remains under investigation. Michigan State Police troopers from Calumet were assisted at the scene by the Hancock Police Department.
