L'ANSE -- The Baraga County Federal Credit Union in L'Anse is reporting a phishing scam.

The credit union says a fraudulent text message was sent to Verizon customers in the area Saturday night claiming to be from the credit union.

The text, which reads, "your card has been deactivated," asks the recipient to call a number. The call goes directly to a voice mail.

The credit union says if anyone has given out their information they should email the credit union immediately at BCFCU@up.net.

The sender of the fraudulent texts has not been identified.

L'Anse village police are investigating the incident.

At this time the credit union says no information has been compromised.
