GRAND MARAIS -- The community of Grand Marais will soon be celebrating the long-awaited completion of the entire breakwater project.

Grand Marais began construction of the five million dollar project earlier this summer. Once that was finished, the Army Corps of Engineers reconstructed 300 feet of its existing breakwater.  But a gap remained between the two structures.

And now, after an expedited permit from the Corps, Grand Marais will be able to fill that void.

"The cost of that project was about $175,000.  We're filling in half of their gap and, of course, half of ours.  I still feel that the price should have been split in half and they (Army Corp of Engineers) should have come up with half, and it still bothers me they didn't," said Burt Township Supervisor, Jack Hubbard.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of the month.
