CHATHAM -- Fifth grade students learned about the importance of conservation Friday in Chatham.
It was the fourth annual Agri-Palooza at Michigan State University's U.P. Research Center. More than 400 students from Marquette and Alger County schools came for a field trip. They rotated around the research center to different stations. Each offered something new from the Army Corp of Engineers, the National Weather Service, the Peace Corp, and more.
But for all the fun, each station came with an important lesson about conservation.
"The education component today is conservation and conservation stewardship," said Renee Leow, of the Marquette County Conservation District.
"The kids are our future and we need to teach them and to have them become better stewards of the land."
The kids also enjoyed plenty of food and free ice cream.
