MARQUETTE -- You know the summer is here when the farmers markets in Marquette draw quite the crowd.
That's exactly what happened Saturday at the Marquette Commons. Dozens of vendors offered fresh local produce, coffee, arts and crafts and home goods. Musicians entertained the crowd. Organizers say it's a win-win for everyone.
"You're supporting your friends and your neighbors who are trying to make a living at something they're talented at, whether they're growing your food or baking your bread," said Sarah Monte, a Marquette administrator. "Supporting your local farmers is better for your health because food that's been picked so freshly and served to you is going to have better nutrition."
The Downtown Farmers and Artists Market is there every Saturday this season from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Organizers ask that you leave your furry friends at home due to produce safety.
