MARQUETTE -- The City of Marquette began removing the fill at the wetlands areas of the bogwalk at Presque Isle early Saturday.

The project does not bode well with bird watchers who say more than 200 species of birds migrate and breed on that land. They say removing the trees will destroy the birds' food source and shelter.
Two weeks ago, city officials met to address their concerns.
