NMU Volleyball falls to Ferris St. 3-1

The Northern Michigan University volleyball team
snapped its three game winning streak on Saturday (Oct. 27) as the ‘Cats
lost to Ferris State University, 3-1 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference matchup from Big Rapids, Mich.
The ‘Cats fall to 16-10 overall and 8-5 in the GLIAC for the season.
The Bulldogs are now 19-5 and 12-1, for second place in the conference.
Ferris took the first set (25-18) before Northern was able to come ahead in the second (25-22). However, it wouldn’t be enough as the
Bulldogs took the third and fourth for the match (26-24 and 25-22).
Junior Sarah Hamilton contributed 12 kills for NMU, while junior Lina
Lopes added 10 and junior Kalli Herron and senior Jasmine Calhoun each
had nine. The ‘Cats finished the match with 53 kills for a .118 kill
percentage. Senior Kalin Zimmerman was the only Wildcat to put double digits in digs with 10, freshman Lisa Studnicka (9) and junior Kellisha
Harley (8) were close behind. Harley ended the afternoon with 32
assists.
For Ferris, Aly Brecht and Megan Vandermeer had 11 kills apiece and
Anne Sutton had eight. As a team, the Bulldogs had 43 kills for a .248
kill percentage. Brandie Merren and Courtney Rehm each tallied 12 digs,
while Samantha Fordyce gave 11 more. Fordyce also had 27 kills.
The Wildcats will travel to Michigan Tech on Tuesday (Oct. 30) for a
matchup against the Huskies at 7 p.m.
