NMU Soccer falls to Walsh 1-0

In the first-ever meeting between the two schools, Walsh University defeated the Northern Michigan University soccer team in a 1-0 decision on Friday (Oct. 26) from the NMU soccer field. The 
‘Cats now fall to 3-13 overall and 2-10 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchups, while the Cavaliers improve to 9-5-2 and 5-5-2.

The score remained scoreless for the entire first half, and much of the second until Walsh was able to score the lone goal in the 78th minute. The goal was by Jessie Gearhart after she rebounded a shot from her teammate, Kristen Conti.

The ‘Cats finished the game with six shots on goal, while Walsh had four. NMU goalie freshman Shelby Conard had three saves for the night. Taylor Stano had six saves for the Cavaliers.

Senior Amelia Johnson and freshman Gabriella Garza led the ‘Cats with three shots each. For Walsh, Carley Adams, Molly Martin and Gearhart each had two.

NMU will compete in its final game of the season on Sunday (Oct. 28) against Malone University at noon from the NMU Soccer Field. Seniors Becky Fiorenza, Johnson, Peplinski and Brekkelle Sellers will play in their final game.
