Michigan Tech hockey player Blake Pietila will take part in USA Hockey’s National Junior Evaluation Camp beginning tomorrow at Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid’s Olympic Center. Pietila was one of 42 under-20-year-old Americans invited to the event.

The players will have several practices and games during the camp which runs Aug. 4-11.

USA Hockey will use this week’s evaluation toward selecting squads for the 2013 World Junior Championship in Ufa, Russia, Dec. 26-Jan. 5.

Pietila has experience playing with USA Hockey having been a member of the United States National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor, Mich., prior to coming to Tech.

“I feel very privileged to be invited to this event,” said Pietila. “It’s an honor to represent Michigan Tech here and have an possible opportunity to represent the USA at the World Juniors.”

Pietila plans to blog about his experience at the camp in regular installments beginning Monday. They will be available on Michigan Tech’s website, MichiganTechHuskies.com.
