MARQUETTE -- Northern Michigan University students braved the cold and snow Sunday for a race that would normally be run by dogs.
It was the annual Human Sled Dog races. The race is inspired by the UP 200. NMU's Special Events committee organizes the event. Teams of four would pull a fifth teammate on a homemade sled through a short race course.
There were prizes awarded to the fastest team and the team with the most creative sled. Sleds could be made out of anything teams could find. Dozens of spectators arrived to cheer on the racers.
"It was so much fun. I had a blast. I think all the teams had a blast. It was really quick, and it was awesome," said Sarah Muellerleile, a coordinator.
The race was the conclusion to NMU's Winterfest.
