Ashland pulls away from MTU Men 73-59

The Michigan Tech men’s basketball team shot 32-percent in the second half in a 73-59 loss at Ashland Thursday (Feb. 16). 

The Eagles (14-10, 9-8 GLIAC) out-scored the Huskies (12-11, 10-6 GLIAC) 39-25 over the final 20 minutes.

The two teams were tied at 34 at halftime but the Eagles shot 50-percent (11-22) from the field and shot 13-of-19 from the free throw line. The Huskies were 1-of-4 from the free throw line in the second half.

Junior Ali Haidar finished with a double-double thanks to 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Sophomore Austin Armga added 11 points, and senior Brian Olley added five points in his return from illness.

Tech received 26 points from its bench compared to just nine by Ashland.

Evan Yates led the Eagles with a game-high 20 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. He shot 6-of-14 from the field and was 8-of-10 from the free throw line.

"Yates definitely won the battle tonight finishing with game-highs in both points and rebounds,"  said head coach Kevin Luke.

Jordan Berlin and DaWuan Thomas each finished with 14 points for AU.

Tech will close out its regular season road schedule at Lake Erie Saturday (Feb. 16).
