Michigan Tech head football coach Tom Kearly today announced the addition of 24 student-athletes to the Huskies’ roster for the 2012 season.

Tech’s incoming class includes 10 offensive players and 14 defensive players. Of the 24 student-athletes, 17 are from Michigan including three from the Upper Peninsula. Six players hail from Wisconsin and one is from California.

“This was our best year for having a high percentage of our offers accepted,” said Kearly, who begins his seventh season as the Huskies’ head coach. “Our coaching staff did an excellent job of identifying prospective student-athletes. Our emphasis this year was to find skill position players on both sides of the ball, and I feel like we did that with six defensive backs and four wide receivers.

“As always, academics are a priority for incoming student-athletes. We’ve got a good group of students in this class including three valedictorians.”

Michigan Tech posted a 7-4 record in 2011, finishing tied for third in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Listed below are the 24 student-athletes that will attend Michigan Tech and play football this fall. A brief biography on each is also available below.

Notes: The current team has been conditioning and lifting weights since returning from the semester break. Spring practices for Michigan Tech will begin March 22, with the annual spring game to be played at Sherman Field on April 14.

Shaun Austin DB 6-3 200 Plymouth, Mich.
Played at Plymouth High School ... Was a two-time all-conference selection ... Named all-state second team ... Helped the Wildcats to a state runner-up finish in 2010 ... Threw for 1,468 yards and 14 touchdowns and rushed for another four touchdowns as a senior ... Also participated in lacrosse.

Tony Brechting OL 6-2 280 Comstock Park, Mich.
Played at Grand Rapids West Catholic High School ... Was a two-time all-area dream team selection and all-state honorable mention as a senior ... Helped the Falcons to a state title in 2010 ... Also participated in wrestling and track and field.

Derek Cingel DB 6-3 180 Novi, Mich.
Played at Novi High School ... Was a two-time all-conference first team selection ... Was a state qualifier in track and field (high jump) ... Older sister, Jessica, is a women's basketball player at Northwood University.

Dan Domitrovich OL 6-4 275 Ontonagon, Mich.
Played at Ontonagon High School ... Was an All-UP Class D selection as a senior ... Earned All-Great Western Conference honors in both 2010 and 2011 ... Is his class valedictorian ... Also participated in track and field.

Spencer Froemming DB 6-0 175 Cecil, Wis.
Played at Bonduel High School ... Named the Central Wisconsin Conference Offensive Player of the Year in 2011 ... Was a three-time all-conference selection ... Earned all-region and all-state honorable mention honors as a senior ... Help the Bears to the state semifinals as a junior ... Also participated in basketball and track and field.

Connor Hanson DL 6-0 250 Menomonie, Wis.
Played at Menomonie High School ... Was a unanimous all-state first team selection as a senior ... Earned All-Big Rivers Conference First Team honors ... Helped the Mustangs to two league titles and a state semifinals appearance in 2011 ... Also participated in wrestling and golf.

Mitch Jacqmain DB 6-1 180 Saginaw, Mich.
Played at Saginaw Nouvel High School ... Helped the Panthers to a state title as a senior ... Recorded 96 tackles, 21 tackles for loss and three interceptions as a senior ... Was a member of National Honor Society ... Also participated in baseball, where he was an academic all-state honoree.

Tanner Keyzers LB 5-11 195 Little Chute, Wis.
Played at Little Chute High School ... Was an all-conference running back ... Rushed for 911 yards and nine touchdowns on 151 carries in 2011 ... Is tied for fourth in single season rushing yards at Little Chute ... Was also a state finals participant in wrestling and state qualifier in track and field (pole vault).

Evan Mayer DL 6-6 230 Wausau, Wis.
Played at Wausau West High School ... Named all-conference honorable mention despite playing in just three games (injury) ... Posted a combined eight sacks as a junior and senior ... Also participated in basketball.

Roth Mendoza DB 5-10 185 Long Beach, Calif.
Played the last two years at Golden West Community College ... Was a two-year starter at cornerback ... Was named the Trinity League Scholar Athlete of the Year and All-Trinity League First Team ...Attended St. John Bosco High School, where he played football and basketball.

Kevin Miller RB 6-1 195 Farmington Hills, Mich.
Played at North Farmington High School ... Earned all-state honors in 2011 ... Rushed for 1,092 yards and 18 touchdowns on just 123 carries last fall ...Set a school record for points in a season with 120 ... Was also a regional qualifier in wrestling.

Jacob Mineau WR 5-9 160 Marysville, Mich.
Played at Maryville High School ... Earned Macomb Area Conference Silver Division Player of the Year accolades as a senior ... Accounted for 1,971 yards of total offense and 29 touchdowns in 2011 ... Broke 14 school records ... Was an academic all-state first team selection.

Joe Nugent DL 6-4 195 Frankfort, Mich.
