ESCANABA -- The Midwest Ice Racing Association, TLR Cup Championship Ice Racing Series, and the United States Snowmobile Association Prostar Oval Ice Racing Series scheduled at the U.P. State Fair Grounds January 14-15 is postponed. The new date for the event will be announced no later than Monday, January 16.
Steve Masters, Director for the Bays de Noc Convention and Visitors Bureau said, "I can't believe that we wouldn't have cold in the middle of January!"
"When the CVB was considering hosting the event, we looked at historic weather conditions and figured with the historic temperature averages, we would be able to make an ice track. We knew that snow in January would be too unpredictable for an event, but cold weather to make ice? We thought that was dependable. Just goes to show you Mother Nature does what she wants when she wants."
MIRA organizers say, "The event will happen this winter. With all of the cancellations throughout the Midwest and Canada, we are reviewing the scheduling of the three series to see if we can find alternate dates to bring them all to Delta County."
"The U.P. State Fairgrounds is an outstanding venue to host this type of event, and we want the community to have a great show. Our goal is to make this an annual winter event, and we can't do that unless we put on a great race and get the community in the stands."
As soon as the dates are available, they will be released to the community and advertising will be restarted.
