Escanaba's Karl Dickson
ESCANABA -- It's been 60 years since Little League baseball was introduced to the Upper Peninsula.
Ironically, less than two days after this season's LLWS ended, Mister Little League, as he was known up here, has died.
Karl Dickson of Escanaba was a district administrator from 1961-1993 and was selected to the Upper Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame in 1992.
The little league field in Escanaba is named in his honor.
He was the coach of the Escanaba team that advanced to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania in 1957. That's the only Upper Peninsula team to reach that event.
Dickson also was heavily involved the American Legion and Babe Ruth baseball in the area.
Karl Dickson died Tuesday at his Portage Point home. He was 94 years old.
