He won a gold medal in the 2011 X-Games, and he was in the 2010 Winter Olympics in snowboard cross, but Iron River's Nick Baumgartner isn't ready to slow down by any means.
He's off-road racing, and it didn't take long for Baumgartner to find the podium. He was third in this stock truck class race in Buchanan, Michigan early last month, and a couple weeks ago, he grabbed first place in a Traxxas off-road race in Crandon, Wisconsin.
Baumgartner says the need for speed doesn't stop.
"I race all winter long, and I can't get it out of my mind," says Baumgartner. "I started to take my kid to Crandon for the off-road races for Father's Day weekend. I kind of fell in love with it. What I did is I bought, my buddy, Chris Bowzer of Bowzer Racing, I bought his old truck. What I learned through hanging around the last couple years is, either you spend a couple years making a truck fast or you buy a fast one. And I wanted to make sure that I had no questionis, either it was the truck or me."
Baumgartner already has circled August 13 and 14 on his calendar. That's when the TORC circuit races are in Bark River.
