EAST LANSING, MI -- Two Upper Peninsula teams will have a chance to win a girls' basketball state title Saturday.

The Bark River-Harris Broncos forced Morenci into 28 turnovers and cruised into the Class D Girls Basketball final with a 66-44 victory Thursday evening at the Breslin Center.

The Broncos broke through some early game jitters, trailing 9-2 after a couple minutes, to lead 16-15 after one quarter.  A 10-0 run early in the second quarter enabled BR-H to grab a 30-20 advantage at the half.

Coach Joel Schultz's squad outscored the Bulldogs 23-6 in the third quarter to take a 53-26 lead.  Megan Mackowiak poured in ten straight Bronco points in the first four minutes of that stanza.   Mackowiak paced BR-H with 20 points and seven steals.

The Family Madalinski combined for 35 points--Jaime had 15 points and ten rebounds, Abbie chipped in with 12 points and Sarah had eight.

Tia Tompkins led Morenci with 16 points and nine rebounds.

Bark River-Harris (22-4) will meet defending state champion Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes (21-5) in the final, Saturday morning at 10 a.m. eastern time.

The Lakers rallied from a four point halftime deficit to defeat Central Lake 52-41.  Lauren Robak and Lexie Robak showed the way for the Lakers with 18 and 13 points respectively.  Central Lake's Jasmine Hines scored 23 points and collected eleven rebounds.  Hines is Michigan's Miss Basketball.  She signed a national letter of intent with Michigan State.

Earlier in the day in Class C, Saint Ignace was able to get revenge on last year's double overtime loss in the final by eliminating two-time defending state champion Flint Hamady 63-55.

The Saints outscored the Hawks 37-26 in the second half.  Nicole Elmblad, the runner-up to Hines in the Miss Basketball voting, scorched the nets with 28 points on eight of 16 shooting (three of six from three-point land) and converting all nine free throws.  Grace Wheeler provided solid support with 20 points and a team high eight rebounds.  A Wheeler three-pointer gave the Saints a 48-44 lead with six minutes remaining in the game.  Flint Hamady would not get closer than four points the rest of the way.

Flint Hamady only made 13 of 26 free throws while Saint Ignace was 22 of 31.

Arlesia Morse led the Hawks with 22 points and 13 rebounds.  Kathy Thomas chipped in with 21 points and eight boards.

Saint Ignace will face Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett in the final Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.  The Knights dispatched Sand Creek 49-29.  Haliegh Ristovski had 18 points for Liggett while Bre'nae Andrews contributed 14 points.
