No. 11 Grand Valley State defeated Michigan Tech 5-0 Friday (Oct. 19) in a battle between the top two teams in GLIAC women's soccer. The loss was the first for the Huskies in league play this season and the team is currently 10-3-1 overall and 8-1-1 in league play.

"We didn't get the result we were hoping for, but I am happy with our players' performances," said head coach Michelle Jacob. "We never stopped working, and we continued to press hard and create opportunities. Grand Valley played very well, and we fortunately could not get our opportunities to fall."

Jenny Shaba scored the only goal in the first half for the Lakers in the 21st minute. She would also score one of GVSU's four goals in the second half. Kayla Addison finished with three points, one goal and one assist, for Grand Valley.

The Lakers finished with advantages in both shots, 22-9, and corner kicks, 7-1.

Jenna Phelps made six saves in goal for the Huskies.

Tech will play at Ferris State Sunday (Oct. 21).
