PITTSBURGH -- Former Calumet Copper King and current Windsor Spitfire hockey player Ben Johnson was selected by the New Jersey Devils this afternoon in the NHL Draft.
The Devils used the 90th overall pick in the third round to take the forward.
Johnson scored 18 goals and had 20 assists for the Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League in 68 games last season.
The six-foot, 186-pounder scored 77 points for the Copper Kings as they finished as the state runner-up in the 2010-11 campaign.
Meanwhile two incoming Michigan Tech hockey freshmen were chosen in the 2012 NHL Draft today. Left Winger Jujhar Khaira was selected by the Edmonton Oilers with the second pick of the third round. Goaltender Jamie Phillips went to the Winnipeg Jets in the seventh round with the 190th overall pick.
