MUNISING -- When the sun is out and the temperature is up in the Upper Peninsula, there's just one thing to do. Go fishing, of course! That's what over 40 anglers did in 19 boats at the Munising Salmon and Trout Classic, despite the wind coming off Lake Supeiror and the threat of thundestorms rolling in later Sunday afternoon.
This year the event was made a two-day affair with weigh-ins at the Munising Moose Lodge on Superior Street.
The first place prize of $1,500 went to Ishpeming's Ryan Erickson of Team Sniper. Second place went to Chris Deatsman (Munising) of Team Fishful Thinking.
First place for the Trout competition went to by John Richardson (Wetmore) of Team No Limt.
Over $5,000 in cash prizes and donated gifts were given out after the weigh-in Sunday.
Volunteers wanted to give a special thanks to the Munising Visitor's Bureau, Peoples State Bank, Hiawatha Telephone Company, and Putvin's Health Mart of Munising. The four major sponsors, along with 20 others, made this another successful fishing event.
