NEW YORK, NY -- The Green Bay Packers traded up to get more help for their defense, taking Michigan State defensive lineman Jerel Worthy with the No. 51 overall pick in the second round of the NFL draft on Friday.

The 6-2, 308-pound Worthy had 12 sacks and 27.5 tackles for losses in three seasons for the Spartans.

The Packers sent the No. 59 overall pick to Philadelphia in the trade, along with a fourth-round pick, the No. 123 overall.

The Packers made a move to fill perhaps their most pressing need in Thursday's first round, taking USC outside linebacker Nick Perry.

The Packers then traded up for the second time Friday, making a deal with New England that allowed them to take Vanderbilt cornerback Casey Hayward in the third round of the NFL draft.

The 5-11, 192-pound Hayward had 15 interceptions in four seasons with the Commodores.

The Packers swapped third-round picks with the Patriots in the trade, giving up the No. 90 overall pick. They also gave New England their fifth-rounder, No. 163 overall.

The 6-2, 308-pound Worthy had 12 sacks and 27.5 tackles for losses in three seasons for the Spartans.
