MARQUETTE -- (Courtesy of NMU Athletics) Northern Michigan University’s head men’s basketball coach Doug Lewis announces the addition of Shyheim McClelland to the freshman class of 2012-13.

McClelland, a 5-11 guard from Milwaukee, Wis., signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Wildcats. He was a first team selection in the
Milwaukee City Conference and an all-area honorable mention while playing for Milwaukee Northwest High School under coach Carlos Hubbard. He was a
second team all-conference selection after his junior year.

“Shyheim can score and create for his teammates,” Lewis said. “His quickness and strength allows him to break down defenders off the dribble. More important, he’s a good student who has a 3.2 grade point average.”

McClelland averaged 15.2 points and eight assists per game for the Eagles, during his senior season.

“Shyheim is mentally and physically ready to play in the GLIAC as a true freshmen,” added Lewis. “He’s a leader and has the ability to run a team.”
