ESCANABA -- After Dan Flynn stepped down as the Escanaba High School football coach a few months ago, the athletics department began a search for his replacement, and they didn't have to look very far.
During Tuesday night's (3-27) school board meeting, Eskymo assistant coach Jim Hansen was named the third Escanaba head football coach in the last 50 years. The board voted 7-0 in favor of the hire.
Hanson has served as the offensive coordinator during the last six years under Coach Flynn. Before that he was an assistant at Gladstone under longtime Braves' head coach John Milesky.
Hansen is also the school's head tennis coach and is an assistant wrestling coach as well.
Hansen is an alumnus of Escanaba having graduated with the Class of 2001.
Dan Flynn retired after 26 years back in early February.
