The Michigan Tech women’s basketball could do little about the storm outside but it handled the one inside the SDC Gymnasium with ease defeating Lake Erie 82-52 in the quarterfinals of the GLIAC Tournament Wednesday (Feb. 29).

The team will face Ashland in the semifinals Saturday (March 3) in Ashland, Ohio.

The Huskies dominated from the beginning holding a 49-21 advantage at halftime. Tech led by as many as 40 before winning by 30, 82-52.

"There were parts of tonight’s game where we played our best basketball of the season without question," said head coach Kim Cameron. "The role players are playing great right now."

Sophomore Taylor Stippel was one rebound shy of her first career double-double scoring a career and game-high 18 points off the bench for the Huskies. The Woodbury, Minn., native shot 6-of-8 from the floor and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line.

Sophomore Kate Glodowski, junior Sam Hoyt and senior Krista Kasuboski each scored 12 points. Hoyt recorded eight assists for the second straight game.

The Black and Gold shot 67-percent (28-48) from the field and recorded 22 assists on 28 made baskets. Tech finished with a 42-13 advantage in points off the bench.

Freshman Michelle Gaedke finished with two of the team’s five blocks.

The Storm shot 28-percent (16-58) and made more free throws (18) than field goals (16). LEC was 2-of-16 (13-percent) from behind the arc.

The win was the 20th this season for the Huskies who have recorded 20 or more wins the last five seasons.
