Michigan Tech junior Sam Hoyt missed a jumper as time expired as No. 5 Ashland posted a 63-62 GLIAC win over the Michigan Tech women’s basketball team Thursday night (Feb. 16).

Hoyt finished with a career-high 33 points, four assists and two steals. The Arkansaw, Wis., native shot 11-of-22 from the field, 7-of-12 from deep and made all four free throw attempts.

"I was proud of how we fought back again and again tonight," said head coach Kim Cameron.

The Huskies posted a 12-0 run over the final three minutes that was capped by a 3-pointer by senior Lindsay Lindstrom to give Tech a 62-61 lead with 1:24 remaining.

The Huskies would get the ball back after a missed 3-pointer by Lindsay Tenyak. Hoyt would miss a jump shot on the following possession for the Huskies.

Ashley Dorner put the Eagles up one point with a basket with 12 seconds remaining. Hoyt drove the lane but her shot bounced off the rim giving the Eagles the one point win.

"We didn’t box out and we gave up too many rebounds," said Cameron regarding a 45-29 rebounding advantage by Ashland.

Lindstrom was the only other player in double figures for the Huskies finishing with 13 points and grabbing eight rebounds.

Ashley Dorner paced the Eagles with 18 points and Jena Stutzman added 13.

Kari Daugherty, who is averaging a league-high 20.4 points per game, finished with 12 points. She also grabbed 18 rebounds.

Michigan Tech will play at Lake Erie Saturday (Feb. 18).
