The Wayne State men’s basketball team had four starters finish in double figures in a 60-54 win over Michigan Tech Saturday (Feb. 4) at the SDC Gymnasium.
The Huskies finished with a slight advantage in shooting percentage .435 to .407, but the Warriors finished with a 22-14 advantage in points in the paint. WSU also scored 14 points off of 12 turnovers by the Huskies.
"We competed today compared to the last couple of Saturdays," said head coach Kevin Luke. "We just needed to do things a little bit better to win."
Senior Mike Hojnacki made a big 3-pointer with 1:20 remaining to pull the Huskies within three points, 52-49. Tech was unable to grab critical rebounds down the stretch and close the Warrior’s lead any further.
Hojnacki finished with 10 points and five rebounds. Junior Ali Haidar finished with team-highs in both points (15) and rebounds (eight) for the Huskies.
Ike Udanoh led WSU with 15 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Ian Larkin, Cole Prophet and Stacey Waters all finished with 13.
Wayne State finished with a 33-27 rebounding advantage, including a 9-3 difference on the offensive glass.
