The Michigan Tech women’s basketball team held Wayne State to 35-percent shooting from the floor in the second half to earn a 78-65 GLIAC win Saturday (Feb. 4). The Huskies improve to 15-5 overall and 10-4 in the league. The Warriors fall to 11-11 overall and 7-8 in the GLIAC.
Wayne State used a 28-14 scoring advantage in the paint in the first half which ended in a tie, 36-36.
"We made some adjustments with our post play at halftime. We had a hard time matching up with them the whole game," said head coach Kim Cameron.
The adjustments paid off as the Warriors were limited to 14 points in the paint compared to 12 by the Huskies.
Tech did an excellent job of defending the three limiting WSU to just one in the contest.
Junior Sam Hoyt led the Huskies with 23 points, including 5-of-10 from the 3-point arc, and finished with a game-high six assists.
Senior Lindsey Lindstrom scored 21 points for her fourth straight game eclipsing the 20 point barrier. The Superior, Wis., native shot 9-of-10 from the free throw line and grabbed eight rebounds.
Tech had two others score in double figures. Senior Lynn Giesler finished with 17 and senior Krista Kasuboski had 12.
Junior Phaebre Colbert finished with a team-high 23 points for the Warriors and junior center Juanita Cochran added 20.
Tech dished out 16 assists compared to four by WSU.
Michigan Tech will host Lake Superior State Feb. 11.
