HOUGHTON -- (Courtesy of MTU Athletics) Michigan Tech was able to overcome a poor shooting night (37-percent) to post a 59-42 win over Ohio Dominican in league play Thursday (Dec. 8). The win was the 36th in a row at home for the Huskies.
The Huskies shot 21-of-57 from the field and improve to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the GLIAC. The Panthers fall to 5-2 overall and 1-2 in the league after committing 25 turnovers, the most by a Tech opponent this season.
“We did a great job of holding a good team to 42 points,” said head coach
Kim Cameron
. “Our shooting needs to be more consistent. Being able to overcome poor shooting and come away with the win was huge for us.”
The first half was a back and forth affair with the score tied five times and the two teams trading the lead four times.
Lindsey Lindstrom
drained a pair of free throws and
Emma Veach
added a lay-up in the final minute to give the Huskies a 30-25 lead at the end of the first half.
Tech outscored the Panthers 29-17 over the final 20 minutes for the win.
Senior Lynn Geisler scored a game-high 16 points to lead the Huskies. Junior
Emma Veach
finished with 10 points shooting 5-of-8 from the floor.
Freshman
Jillian Ritchie
added a career-high seven points, and senior
Lindsey Lindstrom
contributed a game-high four assists.
Tech’s defense stepped up holding ODU’s top scorer Abby Glover to just three points, all from the free throw line.
Katy Rasor led the Panthers with 13, and Katelyn Stuckey scored 12.
Tech will play its final home game of 2011 Saturday (Dec. 10) against Tiffin. Tip-off is set for 3:30 p.m.
