The Northern Michigan University soccer team got back on track with a 1-0 shutout win over Ferris State this afternoon (Oct. 16).
With the win, the ‘Cats improve to 8-4-3 overall and 6-4-2 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Bulldogs fall to 6-7-2 overall and 6-4-2 in the GLIAC.
The game’s only goal came at the 20th minute of the first half when KC McCary connected with Kim Rietveld on the right side of the box. The goal was Rietveld’s third of the season and second game winner. The assist by McCary was her second on the season.
The second half was a stalemate, thanks in part to the strong rain and wind that moved into the area.
Junior goalkeeper Jessica Baker was uncontested during the game, while Bulldog goalkeeper Rachel McCollum faced two shoots, saving one.
NMU had two goals on the net today while not allowing a shot on net by the Bulldogs. The ‘Cats also held the mark in corner kicks with a 3-1 advantage.
NMU is back in action next weekend with a pair of home games. The ‘Cats host Saginaw Valley State at 4 p.m. on Friday (Oct. 21) and Northwood at noon on Sunday (Oct. 23).
