MTU earns first GLIAC Women's Soccer win

Katie Boardman, McKenzie Hengesh and Janelle Riedl each scored for Michigan Tech in a 3-1 win at Northwood in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference soccer action Friday (Sept. 23).

Boardman opened the scoring for the Huskies in the 11th minute scoring off a cross by Melanie Hoffman. Hengesh extended the Tech lead with her fourth goal of the season off a cross by Lindsey Van Rooy in the 33rd minute. Janelle Riedl concluded the scoring for the Huskies in the 59th minute with a shot following a deflection.

Heather Rhodes scored the lone goal for Northwood in the 77th minute.

Tech (3-3-1, 1-3-1) finished with a 19-13 advantage in shots over Northwood (3-3-0, 2-3-0). The Timberwolves were offsides 10 times to zero by the Huskies.

MaryBeth Spoehr finished with five saves in 75 minutes of work for the Huskies. Jacqui Landry finished with one save and one goal against in 15 minutes of action.

Rebecca Lipinski made eight saves and gave up all three goals for NU.

Tech will play at Saginaw Valley State Sunday (Sept. 25).
