NMU drops first soccer match of season

The No. 13 Northern Michigan soccer team came out on the losing end for the first time this season. The ‘Cats were shutout by the No. 19 Grand Valley State Lakers, 2-0, on Sunday (Sept. 18) afternoon.

NMU moves to 4-1-2 overall and 2-1-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. GVSU is 3-0-2 overall and 2-0 in the GLIAC.

Ashley Botts scored her third and fourth goals of the season for the Lakers. The second goal was on a penalty kick after a Jessica Baker yellow card.

The ‘Cats weren’t able to generate any shots on goal. Baker made three saves for the ‘Cats.

NMU continues its six-game road trip next weekend at Saginaw Valley State and Northwood.
