Felch native loses power steering with two laps to go in AMSOIL PRO 2WD
BARK RIVER -- In the professional ranks, Chad Hord was looking to move from third place on Saturday to the top of the podium on Sunday in front of what could be considered his home crowd at the Bark River International Raceway.
With just a few laps remaining in the AMSOIL PRO 2WD race, Hord moved from second position past Marty Hart into first place to the delight of that crowd, but going into a left turn, the number nine truck lost power steering and Felch's favorite off road son hit the wall and was out of the race.
"I came off the jump here on the straight away. When I landed, something blew out in the power steering and it's a pretty big sweeper to negotiate," said Hord. "No power steering and these trucks have 35 inch tires and I don't care how strong you are, you're not going to keep it off the wall, and I smacked the wall and tore the truck up pretty good."
An upbeat Hord says he isn't concerned about the truck being ready for the next stop on the TRAXXAS Off Road Racing circuit.
"As far as I'm concerned, we've got one of the best crews in the business, and we'll get it back together and get it ready for the next one."
The race was red flagged after that and it knocked out all but four drivers, which Jeff Kincaid won. Also disappointing was the fact Rob MacCachren, the points leader, was out most of the weekend due to a broken clavicle, so fans couldn't see him race and Hord couldn't gain in the points standings.
Hord sits at third heading into the next set of races in early September in Crandon, Wisconsin.
