BRAMPTON, TWP. -- Recent Marquette Senior High School graduate Carley Saint-Onge edged eleven-time champion Syd Wells of Menominee to win the 2011 Upper Peninsula Ladies Golf Association tournament at the Gladstone Golf Club.

Saint-Onge took the lead on the 12th hole when she was able to drive through the green with her tee shot.  The hole was a par four, but only 215 yards long from the yellow tees.  Wells' tee shot was short of the green, and her second shot rolled off the downhill sloped green.  Saint-Onge was able to put her eagle attempt close enough to the hole to force Wells to concede, giving Saint-Onge a one up advantage.  That proved to be the final margin.

Saint-Onge shot a two under par 70 while Wells recorded a one under par 71 in the championship round.

Wells had won the last four UPLGA titles.

In the semifinals, Saint-Onge edged Escanaba native Polly Anderson two and one while Wells defeated Wakefield's Nancy Osier four and three.

Saint-Onge will join the Michigan State Golf Team this fall.  Wells played for MSU in the early 1980s.
