MARQUETTE -- It's time for an upgrade at the Lakeview Arena in Marquette. They'll be replacing the near 20-year-old scoreboard that hangs from the center of the ceiling.
It's one part of several renovations there along with replacing the roof, the lights, and installing a dehumidification system.
Once the old one is taken down, in six to eight weeks, a new one will be put up, with upgraded features.
"And what that brings is a better visual of the numbers and everything going on the scoreboard," said Assistant Parks Director Doug Smith. "But it also saves energy, as it relates to the power that it takes to run LED lights as compared to the old bulbs that were in this board."
The old scoreboard will be auctioned off online. Anyone interested can buy it in its entirety or any of its four parts.
This is the same scoreboard that hung above the 1991 Northern Michigan University Varsity Hockey National Championship winning game.
