Meghan Orberst two run single in the 7th lifts Clinton past Braves 5-4
BATTLE CREEK -- Gladstone was just three outs from its second berth in the Division Three state championship softball game in three years. They only got one out before the game was over, a 5-4 defeat to Clinton.
Holding onto a one run lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Redskins loaded the bases with one out, and Braves fans watched in disappointment as Meghan Orberst, who was 0-3 against senior pitcher Mackenzie Shepeck on the day, singled to score the tying and game winning runs. They take on Frankenmuth, 11-2 winners over Centreville in the other state semifinal.
Tierney Nelson got the win on the mound for Clinton going all seven innings striking out nine batters giving up four earned runs. The Braves' Shepeck also went seven giving up just four earned runs striking out four.
Whitney Wells had two RBIs for Gladstone, Katie Becker and Jordan Kowalski had the other runs batted in for the Braves. They finish the season 27-4. For more details on the game click here for the box score.
