Michigan Tech men’s basketball coach Kevin Luke announced today the signing of three student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. Jordan Chartier (Chatham, Mich./Superior Central), Connor McLeod (Cedarville, Mich.) and Kyle Stankowski (Mosinee, Wis.) will all play basketball for the Huskies beginning next fall.
Chartier, a 6-2 point guard, was named the Michigan Class D Co-Player of the Year by the Associated Press after averaging 18 points, seven rebounds and six assists this past winter. The first team all-state selection helped Superior Central to a 24-2 record and the state semifinals in 2010-11. He finished his four-year career as the school’s all-time leading scorer with 1,226 points.
“Chartier has a great court sense and high basketball IQ,” said Luke. “He’s a pass-first type of player, but is also a good shooter. His length will cause problems for opponents at the point guard position.”
McLeod, a 6-8 forward, averaged 22 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks per game while helping Cedarville to a 23-3 record and a regional title in 2010-11. He earned first team all-state honors and was selected to the Upper Peninsula Dream Team. McLeod helped the Trojans to three straight regional championships from 2009-11 and a state runner-up finish in 2009.
“McLeod should develop into a solid all-around player for us,” said Luke. “He’s a multi-faceted big man that can really shoot the three and also play with his back to the basket.”
Stankowski, a 6-9 forward, averaged a double-double (points and rebounds) each of his final two years at Mosinee High School. As a senior, he posted 20 points per game in helping the Indians to a 14-9 record. He was selected as the Great Northern Conference Player of the Year and also earned academic all-state accolades.
“Stankowski is an explosive athlete,” said Luke. “He has a nice hook shot and decent outside touch. He will be a real asset with his ability to play above the rim.
“All three players fit the academic profile for a Michigan Tech student-athlete. They are great additions to the team and will help us build a strong program for the future.”
The trio of recruits joins two others who signed during the early period last November. Phil Romback (Seymour, Wis.) and Ben Stelzer (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli) were both named first team all-state by the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association. Stelzer was Wisconsin’s Mr. Basketball Runner-Up.
