For the second straight year, the Michigan Tech women’s basketball will enter NCAA Tournament play with a No. 3 national ranking. The Huskies moved up two spots from their place at No. 5 last week as the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association released their new USA TODAY/ESPN Top 25 Poll today.

Michigan Tech defeated Tiffin, Hillsdale and Ashland last week to claim the GLIAC Tournament Championship. The Huskies were one of only two teams in the top five to avoid a loss as Nos. 1, 3 and 4 stumbled.

Tech, which is spending its 10th consecutive week in the top 10, is hosting the NCAA Midwest Regional Tournament Friday through Monday (Mar. 11-14). The only other ranked team in the region is No. 16 Quincy.

A year ago, Michigan Tech hosted the NCAA Midwest Regional with the nation’s No. 3 ranking.

The USA TODAY/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll is selected weekly by members of the WBCA. The next poll will be the final national rankings following the conclusion of the NCAA Tournament.
