HOUGHTON -- It would not be a stretch to say last year's edition of Michigan Tech football was an utter disappointment.

The team was expected to compete for a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title; instead they stumbled to a 2-8 record while stars such as quarterback Steve Short and running back Phil Milbrath sat injured on the bench along with many other starters for most of the year.

The good news is Short got a medical red shirt and is back for another senior season, and everyone else is relatively healthy and ready to go.

After finishing fifth place or higher in the conference six of the last seven years, the Huskies say they're out to show last year will not become a trend.

"We have something to prove," said Tech Head Coach Tom Kearly.  "We didn't have a very good season.  We've worked very hard to try and rectify that, try to fix some of the things that didn't go well, and so far I have no complaints about our effort.  It's been great; our kids have worked very hard."

Senior Steve Short agrees and claims the team is ready to go.

"We definitely have a fire burning," says the fifth year quarterback.  "We want to prove that last year was a fluke.  Things didn't really swing our way last year, and we worked really hard in the offseason to put things back where they should be," said Short.

Michigan Tech opens on the road at conference newcomer Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio on September 11.  The Storm return 21 starters from last year including starting quarterback Sean Bedevelsky who threw for 2108 yards and 15 TDs, then ran for 640 yards while scoring 9 more touchdowns on the ground last season.
