Looking at a possible draft choice

DEPERE, WI -- It's been more than 15 years since an Upper Peninsula native has been selected in the Major League Baseball draft.  That could change in June.

Negaunee's Tony Jandron has been tearing it up for Saint Norbert College in the Division III ranks this season in Depere, Wisconsin.

To say that Tony Jandron is having a great season would be an understatement.  He's batting .521 with eight homers and 45 runs batted with a 591 on base percentage for Saint Norbert College.  He's hit safely in 32 or 33 games.

"I just go out everyday and play ball, that's all I can do.  I'm having a pretty good year so far,” said pitcher Tony Jandron.  “We're not done yet, we've got the conference tournament this weekend and regionals after that, so there's a lot more to be done."

"He's had an incredible season; I've never seen anything like it," said St. Norbert Head Coach, Tom Winske.  “He's been so consistent pitching and hitting; it's been a pleasure to watch.  We're just glad to have him."

Jandron just broke a school record with 109 total bases this season.  One of the players who had the previous mark was Adam Frost, a 2007 draft pick of the Detroit Tigers.

"There's been a lot of interest.  It's up to the scouts to decide, but I think they're crazy if they don't draft him,” Winske said.

"It's possible, but nothing...about all I can do is go play ball and whatever happens, happens,” Jandron said.   “Just take it one day at a time.  When June comes, June comes."

Jandron is 6-1 on the mound this year with a 2.98 earned run average.  He has two complete games and four saves for the Green Knights.
