Modeltowner's All-Time leading scorer goes south
MARQUETTE, MI -- Gwinn High School basketball fans were spoiled the last four years watching Kyle Aho pour in point after point for the Modeltowners--in fact a school record 1,669 points, good for the most all time in school history.
Monday, he began his college career by picking a school to attend next fall. Monday afternoon on ESPN 970's Sportspen radio show in Marquette, Aho chose Alma College just outside Mount Pleasant. The Scots compete in Division III basketball.
The Upper Peninsula Dream Teamer and Class C First Team selection had plenty of other opportunities to play elsewhere, including at Lake Superior State University, but he says the decision came down to the books and playing minutes.
"I based it on academics first and also the opportunity to play--come in as a freshman and have the opportunity to make an impact. That is pretty intriguing to me. It can't be done in alot of programs," said Aho. "I chased that...the opportunity to play right away."
Aho was also glad to see the recruiting process come to an end as well.
"It was a stressful time. I just wanted to make my decision and weighed all the options and I really believe I made the right one in going to Alma," Aho added.
Aho plans to major in Pre-Medicine studies at Alma and eventually begin a career in physical therapy.
