CARNEY-NADEAU -- The Carney-Nadeau boys basketball team lost in the state semifinals on Thursday (3/22), but judging by the reception the team got in their return home, you'd have thought they won the state title.
The Wolves' team bus was welcomed to town this afternoon (3/24) with sirens blaring from firetrucks and police cruisers.
A crowd of a few hundred cheered the players on as they stepped off the bus.
This team won the school's first boys regional basketball title as well as the school's first state quarterfinal game.
The players, especially the seniors, wanted to let the fans know how much the team appreciated their support. "It's amazing seeing all these people here to support us," said senior forward Dylan Lanaville. "They've been here all year for us and more of them kept coming out of the works. It's real nice to see everyone come out and cheer for us."
Senior point guard Lucas Moreau echoed his teammates' sentiment. "It's great, just shows how our community is behind us 100 percent no matter what we do," said Moreau. "They'll always be there no matter what."
Carney-Nadeau lost to Climax-Scotts in the semifinals. The Panthers lost in Saturday's Class D final 76-44 to Southfield Christian.
