BATES TWP -- An off-road vehicle crash Saturday afternoon sent one person to the hospital, police said.

Deputies from the Iron County Sheriff's office responded to the crash on Iron County Recreation Trail #16 near Wagner Lake in Bates Township around 3 p.m. The 29-year-old Palatine, Illinois man was driving a 2012 Honda Outlander 400 ORV off the marked trail when he hit some trees. He was wearing a helmet and his injuries are minor. He was transported to North Star Hospital in Iron River.

The driver's inexperience was a contributing factor in the crash, police said. Paramedics for North Star Health Systems assisted on scene.
