The No. 8 Michigan Tech women’s basketball team made a season-high 13 3-point baskets in a 72-49 win over rival Northern Michigan to open Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Saturday (Dec. 3). The Huskies (5-1, 1-0 GLIAC) made more 3-point baskets (13) than 2-point baskets (12).

"We made a couple baskets early and got some confidence. When we are making baskets, we tell them to keep shooting," said head coach Kim Cameron on the team’s success from deep.

The Huskies enjoyed a 10 point lead at halftime, 34-24, due in large part to eight 3-pointers.

Northern (3-4, 0-1 GLIAC) made four of its five 3-pointers in the first half.

The Huskies strong shooting continued in the second half shooting 50-percent (14-28) from the field and 63-percent (5-8) from behind the arc.

NMU shot 42-percent (8-19) in the first but struggled in the second shooting just 30-percent (7-23).

Senior Krista Kasuboski led four players in double figures for the Huskies with a game-high 19 points thanks to five 3-pointers.

Senior Lindsey Lindstrom and junior Sam Hoyt each scored 11 points, and senior Lynn Geisler finished with 10.

Junior Emma Veach finished with eight points, but she still played a large role for the Huskies thanks to eight rebounds and nine assists.

"Emma did a great job starting it (rebounding) early," said Cameron. "She should get credit for her play even though she did not score much. She does so much that is not in the points column."

The Huskies out-rebounded the Wildcats 33-22, including 12-5 on the offensive glass.

Hillary Bowling led NMU with 13 points and Alyssa Colla added 12.

Tech will continue GLIAC play hosting Ohio Dominican Thursday (Dec. 8).
