Senior Sam Hoyt scored 29 points and sophomore Jillian Ritchie added a career-high 19 to lead the Michigan Tech women's basketball team to a 79-67 win over Kentucky Wesleyan in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Midwest Regional Friday (March 15). The women will face Ashland in the semifinals Saturday (March 16).

The Huskies led by as many as nine points early in the first half and led by three at halftime 33-30. The Panthers would never get closer than three points, and the Huskies led by as many as 13 before finishing with a 79-67 win.

The Huskies drained a season-high 15 3-pointers with five apiece from Hoyt and Ritchie. The team's previous high was 11 3-pointers against Lake Superior State and Ferris State.

Tech shot 54-percent (15-28) from deep and held KWU to 35-percent (6-17). Both teams shot 50-percent from the field.

Junior Paige Albi chipped in 11 points and senior Emma Veach added 10.

Tech dominated play on the glass tallying a 34-25 edge in rebounds. Ritchie grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.

Lauren Goffinet led the Panthers with 23 points, and Karly Rhoads added 16.

Tech (21-8) will face the host Ashland for the third time this season Saturday (March 16).
