NMU edges Tech on ice 2-1

MARQUETTE (AP) -- Erik Higby scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the second period as Northern Michigan defeated Michigan Tech 2-1 on Tuesday night.

Higby scored with 16 seconds left in the second period to give Northern Michigan (6-8-3) a 2-0 lead heading into the third period.

The Wildcats' C.J. Ludwig got the game's first goal at 1:29 of the first.

Brad Stebner scored Michigan Tech's only goal at 13:26 of the third period, but the Huskies (4-8-1) never got the equalizer.

Jared Coreau made 11 saves in each of the last two periods for Northern Michigan, which is 2-5-2 in its last nine games. Coreau had 25 saves.

Jamie Phillips had 23 saves for the Huskies.

Both teams were 1-for-6 on the power play.
