Wildcats Swim and Dive Team Finish Second at Border Battle

The Northern Michigan University swimming and diving team finished second at the Border Battle Invite from the campus of UW-Stevens Point on Saturday. The Wildcats finished with 818 points behind UW-Milwaukee (983). Also competing at the invite were South Dakota, Minnesota State-Mankato and UW-Stevens Point.

Freshman Crystal Bennet won both the 100-yard butterfly and freestyle. Sophomore Molly Kearney wrapped up the diving events, winning the three-meter after taking the one-meter on Friday.

Sophomore Madisen Sechena won the 400-yard individual medley while sophomore Jordan Iverson took third and sophomore Emily Brennan in fifth. Senior Olga Budiansky and Sechena tied for second in the 200 breaststroke, and freshman Caitlyn Brenden finished fourth.

The 400 and 800 freestyle relay teams finished second.  Bennet, sophomore Emily Bourguignon, senior Lauren Cockels and sophomore Debbi Lawrence swam the 400. The 800 squad was sophomore Jordan Iverson, Brennan, Lawrence and Bennet.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Bourguignon, Budiansky, Bennet and Cockels finished third with a time of 1:51.99.

NMU travels to the Calvin College Invite in Grand Rapids, Mich. on Nov. 29-Dec. 1.
