Latest news, weather, high school sports for Michigan’s Upper Peninsula

NMU Soccer Falls to Grand Valley St 8-0

The Northern Michigan University soccer team lost its second game of the weekend to Grand Valley State, 8-0 on Sunday (Oct. 21) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup.

The ‘Cats fall to 3-11 on the season and 2-8 in conference play.

The Lakers (12-1-2 and 8-1-1 GLIAC) scored two goals in the first half, one by Ashley Botts and the other by Cassandra Wiltshire. Charlie Socia had the third goal of the game in the opening minutes of the second half. Kayla Anderson added another ten minutes later.

In the 63rd minute, Botts added another goal. Casey McMillian would go on to score the remaining three goals of the game.

NMU’s freshman goalkeeper Shelby Conard finished the game nine saves for 60 saves on the season.

The ‘Cats will return home this weekend for two games to close out the season. NMU will host Walsh on Friday (Oct. 26) and Malone on Sunday (Oct. 28) for senior day.
