Michigan Tech Volleyball defeats Ohio Dominican 3-1

The Michigan Tech volleyball team completed the weekend sweep with a come from behind 3-1 win over Ohio Dominican Saturday (Oct. 20) at the SDC Gymnasium. The Huskies improve to 10-12 overall and 4-7 in GLIAC play.

"We all sensed that we could have a strong weekend if we continued to build off the road-trip in Chicago," said Jennings. "We definitely played with a lot of confidence this weekend, which in my opinion, was a huge factor in going 2-0."

The Huskies dropped the first set, 25-20, despite out hitting the Panthers .133 to .119. The roles would be reversed in the second set with the Huskies winning 25-22 and the Panthers hitting .222 to Tech's .097.

Tech recorded four of its 12 service aces in the match to win the third set 25-22. The Panthers recorded eight service aces in the match. The Huskies hit a match-high .323 to win the fourth set 25-18.

"A few specific things played into today's win: our ability to serve tough, our ability to execute consistently in serve receive, our aggressive defensive play led by Jackie Aird, and the dominant offensive performance by Sylvie Rokosh."

Middle hitter Sylvie Rokosh dominated the match hitting a match-high .594 with 20 kills and one error.

"Sylvie's match today was one of the most overpowering I've seen in a very long time. She's put together a string of very impressive matches that have had a lot to do with the way this team is playing right now."

Jacqueline Aird and Tessa Mauer each finished in double figures in digs for the Huskies with 22 and 15 respectively. Madeline Haben set the play with 40 of the team's 45 assists on 47 kills.

"While I certainly am happy with today and proud of the toughness we played with, we have to remain focused on improving from here and preparing for next weekend's matches. This jolt of confidence ought to help us with that preparation."

Tech will play its final two road matches of the regular season at Ferris State Friday (Oct. 26) and Grand Valley State Saturday (Oct. 27).
